There is no doubt that water is the healthiest drink you can choose. I’m sure you’ve heard that we should drink six-eight glasses of water daily. Everything in our body needs water to work correctly. Read more about it in my blog post Hydration. But sometimes, we get tired of ordinary tap water and want to enjoy something with more flavor. So check out the delicious flavored waters below!
Infused waters not only help you drink more, they have virtually no added calories or sugars. They contain lots of vitamins and have a good taste that you can enjoy every day. They are excellent options when you want to vary the taste of your water while avoiding artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, and instead, get the health benefits of fruits and herbs.
If you’re looking for infused water to help with detox, add a little lemon. And if you want to help with digestion, add a little ginger or mint. It really is that simple. Besides, they are beautiful as well!
How to make flavored water
When choosing fresh fruits, vegetables, and herbs, always make sure whatever you put in the water is thoroughly washed, pesticide-free, and preferably organic. You want all the good stuff and avoid the bad! Slice or dice the fruits and put them in a jug with a liter of water and herbs. Vary the intensity of the taste, color, and aroma by the number of fruits and herbs you use. Let the water stand for five to six hours in the refrigerator to absorb enough color, taste, and scent. Then drink it, enjoy the flavor, and reap all the benefits.
Here are my top healthy flavor combinations:
- Peach and vanilla bean
- Lemon, lime, and ginger
- Strawberry and mint
- Melon (watermelon cantaloupe) and basil
- Blueberry and orange (use wild blueberries, they have more color and flavor)
- Raspberry and lime
Other suggestions
- Tangerine and mint
- Pineapple, mango, and ginger
- Raspberry and orange
- Kiwi and mint
- Orange, lemon, and cilantro
- Apple, pear, and cinnamon stick
- Cucumber and kiwi
- Celery, lemon, and ginger
When I make infused water, it gets drunk pretty quickly, but your infused water will last in the fridge for about a week. If you drink it slowly, you’ll notice a more robust infused flavor. But you can also refill your vessel with fresh water as you deplete it. This will make the taste less intense over time, but you can keep doing this until you no longer have any flavor hint.
Your imagination is the only limit, so get creative!
